HacDCDoorman Twitterbot

120px-twitter

Here at HacDC, we have our own Twitter bot that announces (or tweets) the occupancy status of the space.  If you participate with Twitter, you can easily follow HacDCDoorman and receive tweets about the status of the HacDC space.  If someone is at the space, you’ll get a tweet that HacDC is open.

Worried about getting too many tweets at once? Well don’t be worried, be happy. HacDCDoorman has enough smarts to only tweet once, when occupancy is first determined.

So what are you waiting for? Follow HacDCDoorman now!

Dan Kaminsky at HacDC TONIGHT at 8 PM!

When: Thursday,  March 5, 2009  @ 8:00 pm

Where: HacDC Auditorium (1525 Newton St NW, 20010)

Why: Because he’s Dan M.F. Kaminsky. That’s why.

Cost: FREE – OPEN TO THE PUBLIC – EVERYONE IS INVITED!

The man responsible for breaking DNS like it’s never been broken before (then quietly gathering the world’s network operators to fix it because he’s a superhero) will be talking about his experiences with DNS and (if we’re nice to him) previewing some of his latest research at HacDC tonight at 8:00 PM.

Robotcast Video Podcast on the HacDC RepRap Build-a-Thon

HacDC RepRap on Robotcast

Wow!  HacDC friend Carl Leonard has done it again!  His most recent (and always fantastic) “Robotcast” video podcast is all about the RepRap Build-a-Thon we had at the HacDC space last month.  Great video of a bunch of interesting and enthusiastic folks building robots, with a surprise appearance by Adrian Bower.  It is kind of a music video for hardcore hackers, and nicely shows off the space and people of HacDC.  Thanks and props to Carl for sharing it with us and the world!

Robotic Action — Bring Safety Glasses

Saturday! Saturday! Saturday!  Get ready to watch some burning polymer! Cheer as human sized robots compete on a half basket ball sized court,  attempting to stuff each other with plastic orbit balls, slipping and spinning on a low friction plastic floor.  Each two minute match runs six robots, designed by six different high school teams.  Matches run continuously all day until 4:30pm on Friday and Saturday, until all 60 robots from 12+ states have competed several times. See the live web cast.

I will be there with my team, 2008 Regional Champions, George Mason High School

GMHS Robotics Team in action for 2009

If you are of the hacking kind, you might enjoy helping troubled future engineers, with there troubled robots!  Bring your safety glasses, or buy some at the competition, and look for the “pit” — or find someone to show you around.  This is not about making robots, ya know, its about showing kids that making and engineering are MORE FUN that rock stars and sports bars.

Learn the rules of the game, the kit of parts, Compact-Rio industrial controller, and more on the right hand side of this page.
