This is the first session out of five in a new course on introductory electronics. (It ought to be six, but we’ll start running into Thanksgiving if we try to schedule a sixth Wednesday that doesn’t conflict with other activities. The other dates are: Oct. 17, Oct. 24, Oct. 31 and Nov. 7.)

This course is designed for complete beginners, but it is a new course taught by someone new to teaching at HacDC, so it’ll be a learning experience for everyone. (That’s also one of the reasons we’ll be keeping the class size low this first time around, though.)

By the end of the course, you should have some experience using basic electronic components (LEDs, switches, resistors, capacitors, simple digital logic) and test equipment (such as multimeters and oscilloscopes), and you’ll have built a few useful (or at least interesting) circuits, including a night light, a basic power supply and a Larson scanner (Cylon eye).

We’ll ask for a donation at this first class to help cover the cost of materials; if you’re able to contribute to helping HacDC be able to put on more of these kinds of events, the materials for this class cost a total of about $20/person.
