HacDC Invited Seminar: Space Solar

Does the idea of orbiting solar panels beaming megawatts of microwave power to Earth sound like science fiction or the plot of a James Bond movie? Well, the Department of Defense just selected Dr. Jaffe’s proposal for such a project as the winner out of 500 proposals submitted to the 2016 Diplomacy, Development and Defense Innovation Summit Pitch Challenge. Join HacDC, the HacDC Amateur Radio Club and Dr. Jaffe Wednesday April 27th at 7pm for a technical presentation and informal discussion on the Space Solar concept and proposal. You know you have questions. Bring them on!

Solar Power Satellite via Arbitrarily Large Phased Array (SPS-ALPHA) is a novel, bio-mimetic approach to the challenge of space solar power. If successful, this project will make possible the construction of huge platforms from tens of thousands of small elements that can deliver remotely and affordably thousands of megawatts of energy using wireless power transmission to markets on Earth and missions in space.
